Reasons to use short term storage

From time to time everyone needs a bit more space. Moving your belongings into storage could be the perfect solution. This could even be for just a couple of weeks or it could be for several months. It all depends on your needs and your reasons for needing the storage.

Self storage is becoming a popular option for long and short term storage. Most self storage companies don’t tie you into to long contracts either. You basically only pay for the time you actually need.

A few other things that you will need to consider before taking on a storage unit is that you will need to provide a heavy duty lock. This will make sure your storage unit is very secure and only you have entry to it. Insurance will also need to be purchased. Make sure all the items you are storing there are all fully insured just in case anything should happen.

So I’m going to give you some reasons to use short term storage:

Renovation work

If you are moving into a new home that you want to decorate or planning on carrying out renovation work. Putting your belongings and furniture into storage is a great idea. It will protect your belongings from being damaged or getting covered in paint, dust or plaster. Also it will save you from having to keep moving the furniture around.

Selling or moving home

Moving house is a massive task on its own. So if you are planning to move why not declutter your home and start moving your belongings into storage. Sometimes when you are selling your home you may not be able to move straight into your new home. You may have to stay with family for a week or two so what better way to store your belongings and furniture.

By moving most of your belongings out into storage before you move will also speed up the moving process on the day too. You will only need to keep with you all the essential items that you use on a day to day basis. The rest of your belongings can be packed away and moved in advance. By not having to worry and move items you are not using it will also allow you to clean the house before you leave also saving you time.

Storing Garden furniture in winter months

During the summer its lovely to have nice furniture out in the garden to enjoy. Garden furniture is often quite big and bulky so what do you do with it in winter? If you don’t have the space in your shed or garage, then self storage is a perfect place to store it. This will keep it safe and dry until next summer. It will free up space in your shed or garage for other stuff that you might need. You could also use the storage unit to store items like your lawn mower, strimmer, garden blower, fire pits and heated lamps.

Storing students stuff

Many students don’t really have loads of belongings as some student accommodation comes furnished or part furnished. It may still be too much stuff for them to bring home during holiday time. Renting a small storage unit for a couple of weeks during the holiday is the perfect solution to keeping their belongings safe without cluttering up your home. Leaving student belongings in accommodation that is not used for several weeks is at risk of being burgled.

Storing bulky equipment

Some of the stuff we all use might be seasonal stuff. This could be camping equipment, surfing gear, skiing equipment, canoeing the list is endless. Some hobbies come with a massive amount of equipment that could very well be in the way when not in use. Putting unused equipment in storage is a good way of storing them away and keeping them safe when they are not in use. During the months you do use the equipment you are able to collect them from storage and store them at your home to make it easier to access them.

Renting a room out

If you have a spare room you might have been considering renting out the room to a friend, family member to earn a bit or extra money. If this is your plan you will need to make the room free of any of your personal belongings. Putting personal items and furniture into storage could free you from being cluttered up with else where in your home. People want to rent out rooms that has furniture they can use like a bed, wardrobe and drawers. They will also want to add their own personal bit and bobs to make it feel like home rather than having it cluttered up with things that are not theirs.

When life changes

Life brings many up and downs this could include losing a loved one, separating and divorce, moving in with your partner or moving to a smaller house. Any one of these could mean you are left with excess possessions that you want to keep hold of but just don’t have enough space for in your home. A storage unit is the perfect place to keep them all until you are ready to have a sort through or get round to selling the items you don’t need or want anymore.
