How to make your home feel cozy on a budget

Have you always wanted to make your home cozy just like the pictures that you see on line? We all crave a cozy place to retreat to in the evenings so we can get snuggled up, maybe even pop on pyjamas and just relax and unwind. Below are my tips on how to make your home feel cozy on a budget .

Rugs

Creating a cozy space is made up of lots of elements, these include throws, rugs, lighting and candles. You also have to factor in how does the space look and how do you need your space to function? If you have a really big room they can often feel cold and sound quite echoey. You can still make a large room cozy though they just require a bit more thought and planning. Smaller rooms are much easier to achieve a cozy feeling in.

The first thing I would do is add a giant rug. There are some really lovely rugs available to buy that are textured, shaggy looking rugs look great and look really soft and cozy. If your room is quite echoey a rug will also help to absorb some of the sound too. Big rugs seem to be quite popular right now, I have seen so many pictures of super large rugs that go right under the furniture rather than just being in front of the sofa or in the middle of the room. Smaller rugs are still perfectly fine to have if that is your preference.

Curtains or blinds?

If you have really large windows in your room this can really make your room feel cold rather than cozy. Choosing nice curtains, voiles or even Roman blinds can really dress the window and add that cozy feeling. Adding layers can add warmth and help achieve a cozy feeling. This could be using blinds as well as having curtains that dress the window. Layering voiles and curtains can also create a cozy vibe.

Choose the right furniture

Leather furniture can feel cold and not provide a very cozy feel. If you do already have a leather sofa, then you could consider buying a sofa cover. There are so many companies that offer scrumptious designs that can upgrade your sofa without you having to replace it. If you are looking to purchase a new sofa, think cozy when you are looking at sofas and chairs. There are so many gorgeous fabric sofa designs to choose from so be sure to take a look at those.

If you are looking to add texture into your room think about buying a poef. These make a great addition to your room and you can buy some super practical ones that also have storage in them too.

Getting the wall colour right

Some colours are naturally warmer than others for examples blues and greens are often thought of as cold colours. If you are looking to redecorate your room you might want to consider colours such as shades of red, yellow and oranges. Neutral tones like gold, beige, creamy neutrals, brown, tan are also classed as cozy shades to use. If your room is already decorated and you don’t want the hassle or expense of decorating it, thats fine. You can still make your room look cozy by adding warm and cozy accessories. Adding throws in warm colours like reds, yellows and oranges can help to make a room feel cozy. Warm coloured cushions can really help too. Also accessorising with furniture like a wood table can also help add to the cozy effect.

Lighting really matters

Lighting is really important so you want to try and keep any lighting you choose on the warm side. Soft white lighting is always a good option for making the room feel cozy. Yellow candle light bulbs give off a really warm and cozy feeling and work especially well in living rooms. Finding a lovely light shade combined with a soft white or yellow light bulb will give off a really cozy vibe and help create a cozy ambience.

Are you lucky enough to have a fire place?

If you are lucky to have a fireplace then be sure to utilise it. A fire can create a really cozy feel to your space. It doesn’t even matter if the fire is working or not, as there are plenty of work around solutions that will still give that cozy feeling. Even if you just have a space where a fire once went you can still work with this. Adding candles into the space will help replicate the look of the fire whilst also providing soft cozy lighting. If you can’t use heat then smokeless or battery operated candles would also work. Also adding logs to a space is a great way to make the fire feel more cozy.

Candles

Candles are possibly the most super cozy element that you can include. They look great in general but you make them look fabulous by having a cluster of them together. This would look great on a coffee table or on a glass tray. Candles also look great if you have really tall candle sticks that can sit around your fireplace. Having candles can also add a cozy and relaxing smell to your room too. You can even get candles that smell like a crackling fire which are great if you don’t have a fire, but want to replicate the smell and sounds of having a fire.

Cushions and throws

There are so many gorgeous cushions and throws available to buy today. You can definitely find cozy cushions that will bump up the coziness of your room. You will be able to find chunky cushions, cable knit cushions, faux fur cushions and patterned cushions. What ever your style or theme is you will be sure to find cushions to match, the same with throws. Throws are so popular right now, they come in a vast array of colours, they even come with tassels and pompoms on them. Chunky throws look super cozy and warm so will definitely add coziness to your room, whilst also being practical and keeping you warm on colder nights.

You can find so many great accessories for your room to create a cozy vibe. Pictures and textile wall hangings are also great to look out for. These don’t even have to be expensive and you can shop about to find the best prices. The best thing is you can change the vibe of your room depending on the season too if you wish. This will really keep your room looking fresh, cozy and inviting.
