I really do enjoy reading only at the moment i don’t have quite enough time. I spent a lot of time reading celebrities autobiographies and i have read a fair few. Just recently i have been reading books that offer inspiration and tips on streamlining life. Im always open to reading something different so i was intrigued how good This is Going to Hurt was going to be.
For my birthday Shane bought me this book called This is Going to Hurt. To be honest i had never even heard of this book. It took me a while to get round to reading it due to time restraints not because i didn’t want to. The book is written by Adam Kay. It is snippets of life as a junior doctor and highlights the highs and lows of what life is like. It also shows the long working hours, missed family events and the general impact on his life.
The snippets Adam shares in this book are hilarious and i have to admit it really did make me laugh out loud. It’s really relatable and you can easily imagine people visiting the doctor with those illnesses or disasters in some cases. It shows the stupidity of people that take up the time of the NHS as well as the ones that really need help. On the flip side it also had me in tears at times as some of the stories were heartbreaking and so sad. It also makes you realise that doctors are only human and occasionally things do go wrong. Adam has really highlighted perfectly life as a junior doctor and its not for the faint hearted.
Well worth reading
At times Adam had to chose between staying at work to deal with patients or his own relationship or commitments. It highlights the extremely long hours junior doctors really have to work, both paid and unpaid.
This book had been an amazing book to read and i have thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It was addictive once i started reading it and very hard to put down. I would highly recommend reading this book to anyone. Even if like me you have never heard of it before. You won’t be disappointed.
